Sewage backing up indoors, an alarm sounding or effluent surfacing in the yard all get treated as emergencies and jump the scheduled work. The first thing to do, before anything else, is stop using water.
A tank that is backing up is already at or above its outlet. Anything going down a drain now has nowhere to go except back toward the lowest fixture in the house, so stopping water use is not a precaution, it is the only thing that stops the situation deteriorating while you wait.
Keep people and animals away from standing effluent indoors or out, and do not attempt to open a lid to look. Tank gases can incapacitate someone in seconds and older lids fail without warning. There is nothing useful you can do at an open tank that justifies that risk.
If an alarm panel is sounding on a pumped system, leave it powered and tell us what it shows when you call, because that points straight at the pump or float. If effluent is surfacing outside rather than backing up inside, that usually points at the bed instead, and the immediate job becomes relief through emergency pumping.

Short answers, because you are probably reading this mid-problem.
Stop using water completely, keep everyone away from the standing waste, and call. Do not run a washing machine or a sump to try to clear it; that adds volume to a tank that is already over its outlet.
No. Tank gases can incapacitate someone in seconds and lids can be heavy and unstable. There is nothing you can usefully do at an open tank that is worth that risk.
On a pumped system that usually means the chamber is filling faster than it is emptying. Reduce water use and call. Silencing the current alert is fine; disabling the alarm is not.
Backups take priority over scheduled work, day or night. When you call we tell you where the truck actually is rather than quoting a window we cannot hold.
Treat it as one for safety: rope it off and keep children and pets well away. It usually points at the bed rather than the tank, which is a slower problem but a real health one today.
Only if an overdue tank was the cause. If it refills within weeks, something downstream is refusing flow, and we tell you which of the usual causes it looks like before leaving.
